I have a mission to request the presence of Combative Hygenhund at Nav 4 in a system. I made it to Nav 4, an asteroid field, and a Talon started attacking me. I destroyed it, but now there is no one at Nav 4 in the system. Is it possible that the ship was the person I needed to send a message to? Is the Nav 4 marker signifigant?

It is possible that Talon destroyed your contact.

Talon? I don't think so...

Make sure mission's "Nav 4" is in the system that you are.

If it's an asteroid field, sometimes you have to wander there untill you find the person you are looking for.
Is it possible for contacts to be destroyed? What do you do then? Leave system and return?

Tip: Mission Nav Points appear as red in the NavMap.
But don't feel bad, once I spent some minutes in an space station looking for someone just to discover he was in a mining base in the same system. 
(At least I wasn't lost in New Beijing)

Right... but only when such nav-point isn't marked/targeted.
